The Jersey City Relief Squad was co-founded by local entrepreneurs Lynn Hazan (@chicpeaJC) and Bryan Kuan (@premierevibes) when they decided to work together to support the community they love. Using their business and social media connections, the pair launched a grassroots GoFundMe campaign that raised almost $10,000 in less than 24 hours from individuals in the community. Since the fundraising campaign was launched almost two weeks ago, Bryan and Lynn assembled a small team of dedicated volunteers (the Squad) who run the daily logistics of the relief effort.
Our main focus is on ordering meals from local restaurants and delivering them to local hospitals, the Jersey City Police Department, food banks, shelters etc, typically feeding between 60-100 people a day. We are proud that we are not only feeding the community but also supporting small local businesses in the process. The funds raised have also gone to purchasing medical grade masks for the frontline workers, and we will be expanding into purchasing groceries for those Jersey City residents who are struggling with food insecurity during the COVID-19 crisis.
The Squad has also helped facilitate the donation of a variety of items (food, cleaning supplies, PPE, etc) from the general public to those who need it most through our growing network of contacts.
